Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority union workers to go on strike

  • 09-29-2025

TAUNTON, Mass. (WJAR) — Union workers for the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority announced they will be going on strike early Monday morning.

According to ATU Local 1548, the workers will be striking from 4:30 a.m., and plans to stay out until an agreement is reached.

The picket line will be outside the GATRA headquarters on 10 Oak St. in Taunton.

Due to the strike, GATRA said there will be service disruptions, including limited service on fixed route, ADA Paratransit and Dial-A-Ride services.

"GATRA has left us with no other choice but to walk off the job. We want the citizens of Taunton, Attleboro and surrounding communities to know that we did not want to strike. We hope they stand with us. These workers who keep Taunton moving have been ignored for far too long by GATRA management," Local President and business agent Chuck Ryan said in a statement. "GATRA put an insulting offer on the table, and our members voted it down. It's clear GATRA has no interest in giving our members a fair contract and providing our riders a reliable, safe, and affordable transit system."

The union said it has been in contract talks with GATRA since June.

"GATRA is committed to operating as much service as possible, prioritizing life sustaining medical trips. If your Dial-A-Ride or ADA Paratransit trip has been cancelled you will receive a notification," GATRA said.

The disruptions are also to impact Taunton High School students that use GATRA buses.
